SeaScrub

SeaScrub floating absorbent granules are designed to help contain, absorb, and remove waterborne hydrocarbon spills safely and quickly.

Floating Absorbent Granules Marine Spill Response Fresh, Salt & Brackish Water
SeaScrub waterborne spill recovery product

Designed for Waterborne Spills

SeaScrub is designed for spills that occur at docks, marinas, accident scenes, and other areas where fuels or oils may be released into the water. It is especially useful for larger releases involving crude oil, diesel, gasoline, and other petroleum-based contaminants that can threaten shorelines and aquatic life.

SeaScrub works on fresh, salt, and brackish water, allowing it to control and encapsulate hydrocarbon spills quickly across a variety of marine and shoreline environments.

How SeaScrub Works

SeaScrub is a highly microporous mineral derived from pure volcanic glass. The mineral is superheated, causing the small sugar-sized granules to hyper-expand in a process similar to popcorn popping.

This expansion creates billions of tiny air spaces within the mineral, helping the granules float more easily on water and oil while maintaining their ability to work at the molecular level.

Molecular-Level Capture

SeaScrub helps sort, sequester, and encapsulate hydrocarbon molecules so they can be safely and effectively removed from the surface of the water for proper disposal.

Safe for Sensitive Environments

Because SeaScrub is a 100% naturally occurring inert mineral with no chemical additives, it is designed to be a safer absorbent option for open water and sensitive ecosystems such as marshes, ponds, docks, marinas, and shorelines.

Granules that do not make contact with the spill will eventually sink to the bottom, where they present no immediate or long-term danger to the environment or wildlife. SeaScrub will not induce or promote algae blooms and is not designed to negatively impact the surrounding environment.

Environmental note: SeaScrub is intended for spill containment and recovery. Used material should always be collected and disposed of according to applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Simple Application & Cleanup

Applying SeaScrub is straightforward. The granules are broadcast freely across the spill area, where they immediately begin to control and encapsulate floating contaminants. When used as directed, SeaScrub can help eliminate the rainbow sheen commonly seen when oil is present on the surface of water.

Broadcast Application

SeaScrub can be spread directly over the affected water surface for fast spill response.

Floating Recovery

The expanded granules float on water and oil, helping contain contaminants at the surface.

Proper Disposal

Once saturated, used SeaScrub can be removed and handled according to local disposal rules.

Common Applications

  • Fuel and oil spills at docks and marinas.
  • Accident scenes involving petroleum releases into water.
  • Crude oil, diesel, and gasoline spill response.
  • Shoreline and sensitive ecosystem protection.
  • Coal tar seepage remediation on water.
  • Silt, soil, and hydrocarbon mitigation support.

Part of a Complete Spill Mitigation System

Used SeaScrub can be blended with ShoreBloc and MolecuLoc products to help mitigate or remediate a wide range of waterborne spills. It is also effective as a silt and soil mitigation tool, helping remove hydrocarbons from contaminated soils when properly applied.
