How MolecuLoc Works
MolecuLoc is based on a proprietary formula using an alumina silicate material from the family of microporous solids commonly known as molecular sieves. Molecular sieves are known for their ability to selectively sort and capture molecules based primarily on size and structure.
This process is made possible by a regular pore structure of molecular dimensions. The size of the molecules or ions that can enter these pores is controlled by the dimensions of the channels within the material. MolecuLoc is formulated to enhance this natural capture ability, allowing it to help contain and bind petroleum-based molecules.

Porous Capture Technology
MolecuLoc has a porous structure capable of accommodating a variety of positive ions, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and others. These ions can be exchanged when the material comes into contact with a solution.
In spill mitigation applications, this ion-exchange behavior helps MolecuLoc encapsulate hydrocarbon molecules and electronically bind them to the product, supporting safer handling and cleanup.
Built for Safer Handling
MolecuLoc is purposely manufactured above 5 microns in size. This is intended to keep the product outside the smaller particle range commonly associated with respirable carcinogenic concerns for alumina silicate materials.
Material Source
The principal raw material used to manufacture MolecuLoc is amorphous silica, one of the most abundant mineral components on earth. Natural amorphous silicate is commonly mined using conventional open-pit mining techniques, then processed through crushing, drying, and milling before shipment in bags or bulk.
MolecuLoc’s current source uses environmentally responsible practices, including an extensive topsoil reclamation program. Because amorphous silica is widely available, the potential supply for MolecuLoc is substantial.
Uses & Applications
Commercial & Domestic Uses
Alumina silicate materials are widely used in ion-exchange beds for domestic and commercial water purification, softening, and other filtration applications. In chemistry, these materials can separate molecules by size and shape or act as traps for molecules that need to be analyzed.
Petrochemical Applications
MolecuLoc is designed to confine petroleum molecules within small spaces, helping alter their structure and reactivity. This supports spill recovery, mitigation, and safer disposal when used according to applicable local and state regulations.
MolecuLoc can also assist in fire suppression when broadcast over a spill. By encapsulating the liquid, it can help interfere with the fumes required for ignition.
